LIBE 477 Future Vision Blog # 2: Website’s Intended Audience, Structure, and Current Progress

Image
I want to create a website to help elementary teacher-librarians, teachers, and myself start a student creative writing club with lesson plans and other information ready to be used. The writing club is for students from grades 1 to 5 who would like to join and write stories, poems, comics, or whatever that interests them with the tools and mentors available. I also want to emphasize to teachers and teacher-librarians that the club is designed as a place for students to write for fun, not at all graded and assessed by educators. As stated in the previous blog, students are more willing to write when they can choose the topic and form of their creation, instead of being assigned one in class. They become excited to write and help others, eager to show their creations. I will discuss the website’s intended audience, how its information will be presented and used, possible challenges, and how educators can share their ideas and experiences on the website.   ...

Vision Blog # 1: Website for Starting a Student Creative Writing Club

Image
For the final project of this course, I will create a 5-page website that any teacher or teacher-librarian can access. In my previous blogs, I have discussed often about hosting a creative writing club for students in my future learning commons. I have led such a club in the past, but it was on a small scale and in a classroom rather than a library environment. I see a learning commons as the perfect space for hosting a writing club. It has the space, materials, resources, and technology that students can use to write their creations. I’m a passionate writer and reader, and would love to share my enthusiasm with students so they can hopefully write for pleasure and creativity. Therefore, for my Future Vision artifact, I plan to have a website with 5 lesson plan, resources, and information for teacher-librarians to start a student writing club.     As an on-call teacher, I have  visited a few schools where literacy is the school’s goal. I’ve heard from teachers that...

Personal Summary and Reflection of Inquiry Phase

Image
Phase 2 of this blogging project has been an interesting endeavour for me. I’m not used to inquiry-based learning since I grew up in a traditional education environment. However, I experienced self-discovery and empowerment through this type of learning. Ever since I have started to blog my learning, I have learned much from this experience and proud of what I have accomplished. I have gained many takeaways from my exploration and from others in the course. All of this will be applied to my personal professional development as I take my learning into new directions. There were several topics that stood out to me; it is hard to choose one. But I will display my chosen topic after describing my key learning moments and development for my future pedagogical practice.       I have gained many key takeaways while blogging for Phase 2. I have learned that technology should be implemented more often in libraries to promote a reading culture and teach digital literacy...
